How to apply Cream Foundation
Trying to make the perfect cream foundation that everybody loves, is like a pencil with a broken tip – pointless! I have seen it time and time again, that when you try to please everyone, you please no one! This truth totally applies to skin care products as well, because everyone likes different things. When it comes to cream foundation, there are more opinions than you can count!
Some people want more coverage, others want less. Some want dewy finish, others prefer matte. Some want a bit of glow, others don’t. You get the idea. It is a bit like “mission impossible,” because the product is what it is, and that is that.
But, you can still work with a product to give it the effect that you want.
The other day, a friend and customer told me that she wished that my Cream Foundation was thicker. She explained that she has spots and blemishes that she wants to cover up, and my foundation isn’t always thick enough to do that.
That got me thinking…
How To Create More Coverage, or a Dewy Finish?
Try applying the foundation in different ways. If you want light coverage, use your fingers. A makeup brush gives you a bit more coverage. But, my favorite way to create flawless coverage is by using a makeup sponge.
You just have to take one of those little triangular makeup sponges, wet it, and then squeeze it out well. Apply foundation right on to the edge of the sponge, and then stipple it onto your face, just like you would if you were painting faux finish on your walls. Just dot it all over the place. Wherever you need more coverage, dot on some more.
Using a sponge gives you a heavier coverage with a beautiful, velvety looking finish. Just don’t forget to use a moisturizer and an oily cream under your foundation. This will create a dewier finish. The oilier the under-layer is, the dewier the finish will be.
How to Create More of a Glow?
If you want more glow, apply your foundation, and then add a drop of tinted moisturizer on top. This is one of the things I love to do. I use the foundation to even out my skin tone and protect my skin from sun exposure, and then I add a bit of tinted moisturizer on top for extra glow.
The tinted moisturizer gives you glow because it contains a tiny bit of mica. So, if you are looking for coverage AND glow, just layer the tinted moisturizer on top of the foundation! (Yes, you can layer 4-5 products on top of each other, no problem).
Is There Such a Thing as a Perfect Foundation?
Not necessarily. Even if you find something that you think is perfect, it could change from season to season. It could look great in the summer, and be too dry in the winter. So, most likely, you are going to run into these kinds of issue with most foundation products on the market. There are always going to be some things you like about a product, and other things you really don’t like. So, I don’t think there is such a thing as a “perfect” foundation. At least, I haven’t found one…
The key is to learn how to work with the products you have, by finding ways to bring out the effects that you want!
