Why Mature Skin Dries up Your Foundation

Yesterday, I got a question from a customer with mature skin about the Mineral Cream Foundation. She felt like it was too matte on her skin, which probably means too dry, and she was asking what to do about it. This issue is typical for people with dry or mature skin. The problem is actually caused by the dry skin, rather than the foundation itself. Let me explain:

When the skin hits menopause, two things happen. First, we produce less oil. This can cause damage to the lipid barrier that protects each skin cell This barrier is supposed to stop water from evaporating. So when the lipid barrier is damaged, naturally, we often end up with dry, thirsty skin.

What Happens When You Put Cream on Damaged Skin?

When you put any cream on severely damaged, dry or mature skin, the skin will instantly try to repair itself. To do so, it will soak up as much water and oil from the cream as possible. The result is that only the dry ingredients in the cream remains on your skin. This is probably what my customer was experiencing with the foundation she applied.

Dry Foundation is a Common Problem

Even before I made my skincare line, I already knew about the problems with mature skin and foundations. I used to buy products from other companies, and the foundations were always causing the same problem: Before the end of the day, they would look dry and flaky on my skin.

Because I tried so many different brands, I knew it wasn’t a problem with the cream, rather it was a problem with my skin. So, I searched on Google until I found the answer, and the solution is actually very simple…

Layering the Products is the Key!

You have to apply a moisturizing serum first. Next, apply a good face oil or a rich face cream. And, last but not least, put a layer of Cream Foundation on top. I tried it, and just as I guessed, the foundation no longer dried up on my skin!

It makes total sense, that if the skin already has its needs met before applying foundation, the foundation won’t dry up!

How Dry is Your Skin?

It is important to know what level of dryness you are dealing with and apply products accordingly!

Is your skin satisfied if you apply a Moisturizing Serum with Face Oil on top? Or, do you need a richer cream under your foundation? Does the Chamomile Face Cream work better than the Face Oil? Or is your skin dry enough to soak up any amount of oil or cream, no matter how much you apply? If so, the super rich Mature Skin Cream is what you need to use as a makeup primer.. And, there is only one way to find out what works for you: Try a Sample of each!

Once you apply the right layers of products on your skin before you add Cream Foundation, you will find that you can use any type of foundation without any signs of dryness throughout the day! You just have to tailor your skin care routine to fit your skin’s level of dryness!

By putting the right types of products under your foundation, you can create the perfect amount of dewiness on your skin. You just have to test a few different products to discover what works best for you.
