What Does it Take to Repair Sun Damaged Skin?

Summer is always my slow season for sales. It almost seems like people take vacations from everything, including their skincare routines. So, when summer is over, they have to deal with the consequences of that, which is sun damaged skin

Sun damaged skin can cause issues such as leathery skin, wrinkles, sun spots, blotches or just general dryness from burning and dehydration. These are all issues that can make you look older than you are, and many people ask me what to do to reverse this damage.

If you asked a dermatologist what to do about sun damaged skin, they would probably recommend things like hydroquinone and retinol, which are both possible cancer causing agents, or even more invasive procedures, such as dangerous chemical peels and laser treatments. Did you know that chemical peels can make you blind, if they end up in your eyes. Or, if they enter your blood stream too quickly, they can cause your heart to stop???? I bet you didn’t know that…

Anyway, if you don’t want the risk that comes with drastic dermatologist treatments, you can still repair sun damaged skin by just using natural products…

Gentle Exfoliation

When you are dealing with dull, sun damaged, blotchy skin, exfoliation is a must. Luckily, Green Beauty offers 3 different scrubs/masks to choose from.

The Oatmeal Scrub is a gentle scrub that can remove dead or old skin cells with very little effort. Just mix a teaspoon of the powder with a few drops of water or face oil, rub it on and rinse off with warm water. If you want a rough scrub, mix it as a thick paste. If you want a gentle scrub, mix it as a thin paste. Very simple.

If you prefer exfoliating without the need to scrub, my Pumpkin Enzyme Mask is quite amazing. After 20 minutes, it will make your skin feel like silk. Just apply a thin layer to your skin, leave it on for a while and wash it off with warm water. It smells amazing, and leaves your skin feeling and nicely moisturized.

My third alternative is to use a Sandalwood and Chick Pea Mask. Sandalwood cools down your skin and increases circulation, while chick pea deeply cleans and tightens the skin. It can also lighten pigmented areas. So, pick your favorite mask, or use all of them on alternate days.

Toners with Antioxidants

The Rosewater Toner contains 5 different antioxidants that can help reverse skin damage from too much UV exposure. And I love the way it smells too…

Prevention of Future Sun Damage

The easiest way to prevent new sun damage, is by using a Cream Foundation with sun-friendly zinc and titanium, or a super nourishing Mineral Face Balm.
